Men’s Lacrosse Dominates Pioneers to Begin CCIW Play

Win-streak sits at five

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team began College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a 19-3 thumping of Carroll University, Saturday, April 1. The Titans wasted no time, racing out to an 11-0 advantage after the first quarter. With the victory, IWU upped its win streak to five, and boosted its overall record to 7-3 (1-0 CCIW). As a result of the setback, the Pios record slipped to 3-9 (0-1 CCIW).

Juniors Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) and Ike Eastburn (Colorado Springs, Colo.-Cheyenne Mountain) both tallied four goal performances. Black recorded a game-high five points with his four goals and one helper. 

Junior Brendan Baumgarten (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap), freshman Andrew Ortega (Austin, Texas-Westlake), and freshman Noah Dretzka (Delafield, Wis.-Kettle Moraine) each notched a pair of goals for the Titans. 

Carson Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview), Connor Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview), and junior Bob Boone (Los Angeles, Calif.-Notre Dame) all tallied two assists in the match.

On the defensive side, sophomore Sam Weinberg (Highwood, Ill.-Oak Park and River Forest) notched a team-high nine ground balls, while freshman Michael Rocco (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) scooped up eight.

At the X, Rocco won 64 percent of his face off chances (16-for-25), which earned him a team-high in chances and chances won. 

Freshman Sam Scott (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) was credited with his first collegiate victory, and start, between the posts. Scott did not allow a goal in his thirty minutes of action. The Worthington, Ohio native logged one save en route to the victory. Sophomore Segen Chambers (Chico, Calif.-Jesuit) entered in the second half and made four saves, while allowing three goals. 

The Titans will return to the friendly confines of Tucci Stadium to resume CCIW play, Saturday April 8. The Green and White will battle Augustana College, with the opening face off set for 12 p.m.
