Men’s Volleyball Returns to Action Against Fontbonne

Titans will face the Griffins for second time this season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After 11 days off, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team will travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on Fontbonne University, Tuesday night, Feb. 7. First set is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Mabee Gymnasium. 

IWU (4-4) last took the court Jan. 27 at the Concordia University Chicago Triangular. The Titans tallied two wins, as they took down Adrian College in four sets and CUC (0-2) in five. Junior Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) was dominant in both matches, as he recorded 19 kills on an impressive .545 attack percentage against Adrian (4-1), and 12 kills against the Cougars. 

Eastman has led the Green and White offense since the program started three years ago, and continues to do so this season. The Chicago, Ill. native has recorded 82 kills in 27 sets played, an average of 3.04 kills per set. Sophomore Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) and junior Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) have led the offense in assists with 133 and 93, respectively. 

Defensively, DiCosola has a team-high 40 digs, closely followed by junior KJ Johnson's (Saint John, Ind. Marian Catholic) 38. The Titans have been dominant at the net, as five players have double-digit block totals. Sophomore Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) and junior Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) each have 19, followed by junior Alec Mucha (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva) with 18, sophomore Ryan Myers (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Stevenson) with 17, and junior Javier Romano (Prospect Heights, Ill.-Wheeling) with 12. 

This will be the second match-up between the Titans and Griffins this season, as the two faced off in Santa Cruz, Calif. on Jan. 20. IWU fell in five sets with scores of 25-19, 26-28, 25-20, 14-25, 15-11. Mucha broke the program record with 10 total blocks in the loss, which currently leads the nation in blocks in a match this season.
