Men’s Soccer’s Historic Season Comes to End in NCAA Tournament

Titans make first NCAA appearance in program history

CHICAGO - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team competed in its first NCAA tournament game in program history Saturday, Nov. 11. The Titans played reigning national champions University of Chicago at Stagg Field, flailing 3-1. The Titans conclude their season with a record of 6-7-5.

During the first half the Titans played super tough but fell behind early on a penalty kick in the 21st minute. The Maroons doubled its lead just before the half, scoring in the 37th minute, to take a 2-mil lead into halftime.

The second half was a defensive battle for the first 20 minutes, before the Titans broke through. With a corner kick from junior Declan Nugent (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley), senior Ryan Miller (Shingle Springs, Calif.-Oak Ridge) put a header into the back of the net, making the score 2-1.

The Maroons answered back just eight minutes later making the match 3-1, as IWU saw its season come to an end.

Sophomore Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) finished with six saves.
