Men’s Volleyball Falls in Home Opener

Titans fall to 2-4 on the season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team fell in three sets with scores of 25-10, 25-23, 25-23 to Benedictine University Tuesday, Jan. 24. 

Illinois Wesleyan (2-4) was held to a mere .057 attack percentage, while Benedictine hit .260. The Titans, who entered the match averaging the 12th most blocks in the nation, were outnumbered 8-7 in rejections. Benedictine held the advantage in kills (32-29), assists (30-28), aces (7-4), and digs (30-26). 

Junior Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) led the offense for the Green and White with a match-high 11 kills, followed by junior Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) and freshman Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) with seven and six, respectively. Perez finished the match with a .385 clip. Milka led the Titans with two aces. Freshman Hayden Warfield (Winston Salem, N.C.-Dakar Academy) collected his first collegiate kill during the first set of the match. Sophomore Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) collected a team-high 17 assists.

Defensively, the Titans were led by Perez with four blocks, while junior Javier Romano (Prospect Heights, Ill.-Wheeling) and sophomore Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) each had two. Eastman notched a team-best six digs, while junior Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) followed with five, and KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic) had four. 

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action on Friday, Jan. 27 at the Concordia University-Chicago Tri. The Titans will face Adrian College at 4 p.m., followed by CUC at 7 p.m. To watch the matches live, click here, and to access live stats click here.
