Men’s Soccer Treks to Dubuque for Date with Duhawks

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - With another wild finish in the books for the Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer, the Green and White make the 207-mile trek to take on Loras College, Saturday evening, Sept. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Rock Bowl. 

Entering the highly anticipated non-conference matchup, the Titans, riding a three-game winning streak, own a record of 3-1-1. The Duhawks have manufactured a 3-1 record over the team's first four matches. 

The Green and White last competed Tuesday, Sept. 13 as the team battled Knox. IWU came out on top in the high-scoring affair as junior Brody Seaton (Dunlap, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) produced the go-ahead score with 56 seconds remaining to stun the Prairie Fire with a final score of 4-3. 

Loras, who did not play a midweek match this week, most recently took to the pitch Sunday, Sept. 11. The team saw its unblemished record snapped at the feet of Gustavus Adolphus by a final tally of 3-1. The Golden Gusties scored three unanswered goals in the second 45 to earn the come from behind victory. 

Saturday's duel will mark just the third all-time meeting between these two programs. The Green and White are in search of the team's first victory against LC as Loras holds the 2-0 all-time series advantage. The two teams played each other Aug. 30, 2003 with a final score of 4-0 and Sept. 11 of last year with a final score of 3-2. 

In IWU's five matches thus far, the Green and White have outscored its opponents by a tally of 13-11. In total, the Titans have garnered a 2.60 goal per game clip, compared to its opponents 2.20 average. On the flip side, IWU is averaging 12.2 shots per game while its opponents are garnering 17.8 shots per match. 

Illinois Wesleyan has seen eight different student-athletes register a goal this season. Junior Sasha Tylnyy (Wheeling, Ill.-Buffalo Grove) leads the team with three goals and is tied for the most points with six. Fellow junior Gavin Smith (Seattle, Wash-Eastside Preparatory School) is the other athlete with six points on the year. Smith has tallied a pair of goals and a pair of assists along with 12 shots, the most on the team. 

Sophomore Spencer Fulton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) has logged 254 minutes between the posts, appearing in four matches, while starting three. The Bloomington, Ill. native holds a record 2-1-1 for the season.
