Softball’s Season Ends with Loss to CSB in NCAA Regional

IWU concludes season with 27-15 record

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team saw its season come to an end on day two of the NCAA Division III St. Joseph Regional Saturday, May 14. IWU, which fell 8-0 in five innings to the College of St. Benedict, finishes the season with a 27-15 record.

The loss marked the end of the careers of a phenomenal group of seniors as Hayley Earl (Washington, Ill.-Washington), Colleen Palczynski (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Prospect), Kaylee Bowers (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Central), and Madie Monk (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) wrapped up their time in a Titan uniform.

After a clean first inning that was highlighted by a Jen Kuhn (Normal, Ill.-University High) single, the Bennies erupted for six runs on seven hits to take a 6-0 lead into the third.

CSB added two more runs in the third to charge ahead, 8-0. IWU picked up a few hits as the Green and White attempted to rally, but could not break into the Bennies momentum.

The Titans recorded six hits to 10 by the Bennies. Junior Madison Moore (Verona, Wis.-Edgewood) posted a 2-for-3 outing, while Kuhn, Palczynski, and freshman Ava Khoury (Columbia, Ill.-Columbia) each added a hit.

Illinois Wesleyan used a trio of arms in the circle, as junior Nina Mardjetko (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont) got the start. Monk and junior Natalie Grubczak (Medinah, Ill.-Lake Park) saw action in relief, with Grubczak tossing three scoreless innings with just one hit allowed.
