Men’s Volleyball Tripped Up at North Park

Eastman records game-high 12 kills in setback

CHICAGO - After more than a week off the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team returned to the court for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match at North Park University Wednesday night, March 9. A sluggish attack plagued the Titans (6-10, 1-5 CCIW), as they fell to the Vikings (9-7, 3-4 CCIW) in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-16.

Sophomore Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) led the Titans with 12 kills on a .257 clip, while fellow sophomore KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic) topped the team with 13 digs. Sophomore Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont) tallied a team-high 12 assists to go along with five digs.

As a team, the Titans hit .076 on the night with 29 kills on 105 attempts. The Vikings finished with 38 kills on 94 attempts, good for a .287 attacking percentage. IWU tallied 37 digs to NPU's 47, while North Park also held advantages in blocks (5 to 2), aces (4-2), and assists (35-28).

The first two sets saw the score even midway through, but North Park runs allowed the Vikings to pull away 25-19 and 25-17. Looking to extend the match to four sets, Illinois Wesleyan put together a late run fueled by kills from Eastman to close the gap to five, 23-16, but came up short, 25-16.

The Titans return to action Saturday, March 12, at Loras College. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
