BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team embarks on its east coast trip with its first stop at No. 4 Christopher Newport University Sunday, March 13. The No. 19 Titans (3-1) will square off against CNU (6-0) at 1 p.m. ET for just the second time in program history.

The Titans, who have been receiving votes in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches Poll each week, is also ranked No. 19 in the Nike/USA Division III Top 20 list. IWU was previously ranked at No. 11, but a 10-9 loss to Hope College March 2, dropped the Titans eight spots. The highly ranked Captains were slotted at No. 4 in both the USILA Coaches Poll and in the Nike/USA Division III Top-20 poll, March 7.

The Green and White last faced CNU in the 2018 regular season, March 14, where they suffered a 24-14 loss. It was just the second of four losses for the Titans that year. In that same season, IWU (16-4) went on to win its second consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament title along with making its second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

With only four games under the Titans' belt, IWU last touched the field in its home opener against the University of Dubuque Thursday, March 3. IWU secured its third win of the season, 16-5, marking an eight game win-streak against the Spartans.

CNU will welcome IWU after its sixth straight win of the season Wednesday, March 9. The captains defeated USILA No. 19 Ursinus College, 16-5.

The Titans and Captains were both knocked out of the 2021 NCAA Division III Tournament by Salisbury University. The Titans saw their season come to an end at the Elite Eight, while CNU qualified for the semifinals but could not defeat the Seagulls, ending the Captains 2021 Tournament run and season.
