Titans offense explodes for 15 hits and two home runs

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team began its seven-game spring break slate by defeating Lancaster Bible University with a final score of 13-0, Saturday, March 12 at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Fla. Senior Jacob Duffy (Pontiac, Ill.-Pontiac) threw a complete game three-hitter to lead the Titans to their third win of the season (3-5 overall). The Chargers record dipped to 3-5 after this setback.

The Green and White sprung for three runs in the second inning. Sophomore Louis Perona (Chicago, Ill.-LaneTech) laced a double into left center, scoring junior Ethan Burgh (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Prospect) to open the scoring in the bottom of the second, 1-0. In the same inning, senior Collin Elvers (Hamel, Ill.-Edwardsville) also doubled, bringing home Perona. Senior Evan Ranneklev (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley) singled, allowing Elvers to cross the plate to open up a quick 3-0 lead.

Senior Dominic DiLello (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart Griffin) dropped a single into right field to score junior Jalen Ping (Chatham, Ill.-Glenwood) to push the Titan advantage to 4-0 in the third. Burgh took an inside fastball and turned on it, knocking a two-run homer over the left field fence to open the contest up, 6-0.

Freshman Matt Robertson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) notched his first collegiate RBI in the bottom of the fourth to expand the lead to 7-0. The Titans would push the score to 8-0 on a Charger wild pitch.

IWU tacked on two more runs in the fifth to open up a 10-0 cushion.

In his first collegiate at bat, freshman Cade Tomhave (Pittsfield, Ill.-Pittsfield) torched a line drive, two-run homer, well over the left field fence in the sixth inning to expand the lead to 12-0.
