BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After wrapping up the program's longest homestand in history with six straight matches inside of the Shirk Center, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team will trek north to square off with Aurora University, Thursday, Feb. 10 at Thornton Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The Green and White enter the tilt with a 4-3 record, while the Spartans own an even 2-2 record.
This match will mark the first ever contest between these two programs.
The Titans last hit the hardwood yesterday, Feb. 8, as the team took on Fontbonne University. After IWU took the opening set, the Griffins rattled off three straight set wins to defeat Illinois Wesleyan in four sets.
Meanwhile, the Spartans also played yesterday, Feb. 8. Aurora tangled with College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Millikin University. The Spartans swept the Big Blue in convincing fashion to boost their record to .500.
For the season, sophomore Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) is six kills shy of the century mark with his team-leading 94 kills. The sophomore also leads the Green and White with 17 aces, after notching a program record seven in IWU's match against Fontbonne.
Sophomore KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic) has accumulated a team-best 68 digs to lead the Titans' defensive attack. Offensively, the Saint John, Ind. native's 66 kills is good for second on the team.
The setting trio of freshman Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East), sophomore
Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township), and sophomore
Dominic Bennett (Lockport, Ill.-Plainfield Central) have tallied a total of 268 assists on the year. DiCosola leads the group with 136 assists, while Benson and Bennett have accumulated 73 and 59 assists, respectively.
Freshman Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) has notched 22 blocks and sophomore
Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) has tabbed 17 rejections.
