Men’s Volleyball to Face Fontbonne Tuesday

Match is set for 6:30 inside of the Shirk Center

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team is set to host Fontbonne University in another non-conference matchup Tuesday, Feb. 8 inside of the Shirk Center. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. The Green and White enters the contest with an overall record of 4-2 while the Griffins, who are receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association's top-15 poll, own a 5-1 record.

Illinois Wesleyan last competed Friday, Feb. 4 as the team hosted Illinois Institute of Technology. The Scarlet Hawks defeated IWU in four sets to halt the Titans program record four-match win streak. IIT held the Green and White offense to a .141 hitting percentage in the defeat. Sophomore Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) notched a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic) added a team-high 11 kills. 

The Griffins saw its perfect record blemished, Feb. 6, with a straight set loss to College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin opponent, Loras College, who is also receiving votes in the AVCA top-15 poll. 

Tuesday's tilt marks the third meeting between the two programs. Fontbonne swept the Green and White in the previous two matches, the most recent was Feb. 24, 2021. 

Eastman continues to lead IWU's offensive attack with 79 kills, while Johnson enters the contest with 60 and his team leading 65 kills.  

Freshman setter Vince Dicosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) tops the team with his 124 assists and 12 aces in the young season. 

Up front, freshman Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) and sophomore Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) have accumulated 19 and 11 blocks, respectively.
