Men’s Volleyball Prepares to Host Illinois Tech

Match set to begin at 7 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team looks to extend its four-match win streak as host to Illinois Institute of Technology for a non-conference match. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve inside of the Shirk Center, Friday, Feb. 4. The Titans enter this contest with a 4-1 record, while the Scarlet Hawks are 1-1. 

Illinois Wesleyan, which had a match canceled earlier this week, last took the court as hosts of the IWU Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 29. The team swept Adrian College in the opening match of the day, then came storming back to defeat Concordia-University Chicago in five sets. 

Meanwhile, Illinois Tech last competed Saturday, Jan. 29 against Olivet Nazarene University. ONU prevailed in a back-and-forth five-set match. 

Friday's matchup between the Titans and Scarlet Hawks will mark the first meeting between the two programs.

In the first two weeks of the 2022 season, the Titans have earned back-to-back College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week awards. Sophomore Michael Eastman  (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) won the offensive weekly award Jan. 24, while sophomore KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic) won the defensive weekly award Jan. 31.

Eastman leads the team with 69 kills in his four matches this season. The Chicago, Ill. native has also accumulated seven aces. 

Freshman Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) is nonchalantly putting together a strong start to the year. The freshman leads the team in assists (104), aces (11), and is second on the team in digs (31).

Johnson tops the team with his 57 digs to go along with an impressive 49 kills. 

The Titan duo of freshman Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) and sophomore Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) have accumulated a total of 18 and 11 blocks, respectively.
