Tuesday Twin Bill Next Up for Softball

Titans enter the week 9-7 overall, 6-4 in CCIW play

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team travels to Rock Island, Ill. Tuesday, April 6, for the twin bill against Augustana College. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Titans enter the midweek doubleheader at 9-7 overall and 6-4 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action. IWU boosted its record above .500 with a sweep of North Park, April 3. The Titans prevailed 9-8 in a nail-biter in game one, before beating NPU 13-3 in game two. Augustana is 3-15 on the year and in search of its first CCIW win of the season at 0-10.

Illinois Wesleyan and Augie have squared off 61 times ahead of Tuesday, with the Green and White leading the series 36-25. The Titans, who have won two straight against the Vikings, swept the series in 2019. IWU edged AC 3-1 and 2-1 in Bloomington that year. Tuesday will be Illinois Wesleyan's first trip back to Carver Field since 2018, when the two teams split a double dip. 

After a breakout offensive week, freshman Kristina Sherwin (Plainfield, Ill.-St. Francis) leads the team with a .424 batting average. She ranks second on the team with 14 RBIs. Senior Lexy Trammell (Peoria, Ill.-Limestone), junior Hayley Earl (Washington, Ill.-Washington), freshman Megan Fontanetta (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Buffalo Grove), junior Colleen Palczynski (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Prospect), and senior Hannah Heraty (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) sit above .300 at the plate. Trammell checks in at .390, followed by Earl (.360) and Fontanetta (.333). Palczynski, who holds an average of .311, leads the team with 19 RBIs and six home runs. Heraty rounds things out at .310.

In the circle, the Titans saw Madie Monk (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) and Nina Mardjetko (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont) notch wins with victories over North Park. It was Monk's second win of the season, while Mardjetko improved to 3-2.
