Men’s Lacrosse Routs Carroll, Claims CCIW Regular Season Title

Titans claim third straight CCIW title

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team routed Carroll University, 29-1, on Senior Day at Tucci Stadium Friday, April 30. With the win, the Titans claimed the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Regular Season Championship for the third straight season and upped their record to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the CCIW. Meanwhile, Caroll closed the season 0-6 in the league and 0-6 overall.

IWU's senior class carried the Titans to the win, as senior Brett Grabarek (Barlett, Ill.-Bartlett) picked up the game-high seven points, with three goals and four assists. Senior Nick Ceko (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) followed closely behind with four goals and two helpers, while Ben Filo (Wales, Wis.-Kettle Moraine) and Tanner Nelson (Hatfield, Pa.-North Penn) contributed four points each. Filo net four goals and Nelson put three behind the Pioneers goalie in addition to one assist. Senior Zeke Kalmes (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods) registered the first goal of his career, and also added a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Senior Max Bousky (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) was a powerhouse at the X, where he went 20-for-20 in faceoffs and picked up the game-high 17 ground balls. With his perfect performance at the X, Bousky tied the NCAA single-game record for faceoff win percentage. Goalkeeper Will Harris (Bloomington, Minn.-Holy Angels) made two saves and grabbed seven ground balls during the first 30 minutes before splitting time with freshmen Alex Oximana (Seattle, Wash.-Bishop) and Ethan Hare (St. Louis, Mo.-Priory) who joined Harris with two saves each.

The Titans came out with their foot on the gas, registering the games first 21 goals. The Pioneers snuck a goal in with 14 seconds to play in the second quarter, as IWU took a 21-1 lead into the break.

The Green and White scored eight more in the second half to run away victorious, 29-1.

The Titans will host a CCIW Tournament semifinal game Wednesday, May 5. The No. 1 seeded IWU will play host to the No. 4 seed, which will be determined following this weekend's games around the league.
