Quick Start Fuels 3-0 Men’s Soccer to Win Over Millikin

Titans cap season with 3-1 record

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team defeated Millikin University in a 3-0 victory Friday night, April 16 at Neis Field. The Titans finished their countable 2020 season with an overall record of 3-1, as IWU handed Millikin (3-1) its first loss of the year.

The Titans had a hot start scoring two goals in under five minutes of play. Sophomore Nico Thomas (Rochester Hills, Mich.-Bethany) applied the pressure and took the ball from the Millikin defense to put the Titans up by one just over a minute into the match. His strike was followed by an offensive corner scramble, resulting in a goal from junior Zack Kokes (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) to put the Titans lead at 2-0.

To cap off the night, senior Keagan James (Kokomo, Ind.-Kokomo) took advantage of a penalty kick drawn by Donovan Malone (Houston, Texas.-St. Pius X) to put the score at 3-0 in favor of IWU.

Goalkeepers Brett Sprengel (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-Barrington) and Austin Woodside (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) anchored the Illinois Wesleyan defense, as the Titans held on for the 3-0 shutout.

The Titans wrap up the season with an exhibition match against WashU Tuesday, April 20, at Neis Field.
