Men’s Lacrosse Win CCIW Affair at Augie

Titans win first CCIW game in the 2021 season

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team came away with a 14-8 win over Augustana College in College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin play Thursday, April 1. The Titans are 6-1 overall and moved to 1-0 in the CCIW, while the Vikings fall to 4-3 and 0-1 in the conference.

Sophomores Carson Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview) and Connor Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview), and senior Nick Ceko (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) led the Titans in scoring with three goals apiece. Ceko's hat trick marked a career-high, and his first goals of the 2021 campaign.

Carson Kiichle had a team-high of six points, adding three assists to the mix, while Connor Kiichle picked up one assist. The Kiichle brothers each added three ground balls to their respective stat lines.

The Vikings were off to a hot start taking a 2-0 lead before freshman Michael Campagna (Arlington Heights, Ill.-St.Viator) put one in the net closing the AC lead, 2-1. Both teams registered a goal before the end of the first period, concluding in a Viking 3-2 advantage to start the second.

Trailing by one, junior Daniel Dickerson (Wheaton, Ill.-St. Francis College Prep) collected his first goal of the game tying the score 3-3 and started a five-goal run for the Titans. The Vikings had a late goal in the period, but could not make up the deficit, ending the half 7-4 IWU.

In the third period, the two squads went back and forth, each scoring four goals, to give Illinois Wesleyan an 11-8 edge into the final stanza.

The Titans never relinquished their lead, as IWU held Augie scoreless to claim a 14-8 win in its CCIW opener.

The Titans bring it home, inside Tucci Stadium, for a midweek game against North Central College Wednesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m.
