IWU to take on North Park in Chicago at 2 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's basketball team soared past Elmhurst University Thursday night, March 4, in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Quarterfinals inside the Shirk Center. The third-seeded Titans (5-3) led from wire-to-wire in a 77-52 victory over the Bluejays (2-10).

Seniors Samantha Munroe (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) and Kendall Sosa (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) led the Green and White with 18 points apiece in their final game inside the Shirk Center. Munroe added seven assists, four rebounds, and a steal. Sosa chipped in six rebounds and three assists.

On the glass, senior Riley Brovelli (Oglseby, Ill.-LaSalle-Peru) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. She also tallied six points, four steals, and two assists.

As a team the Titans shot 40.5 percent from the floor (30-for-74), went 9-for-29 from three-point distance (31 percent), and 8-for-9 at the free throw line. The Bluejays were stymied by IWU's tenacious defense, finishing 20-for-67 from the floor, 5-for-28 from beyond the arc, and 7-for-15 at the charity stripe.

Illinois Wesleyan tallied 15 steals, with Brovelli notching four and junior Catie Eck (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart Griffin) tallying three, as Elmhurst turned it over 22 times. IWU cashed in on EU's miscues, scoring 25 points off turnovers. The Green and White also held a 40-28 lead in points in the paint and a 15-11 lead in fastbreak points.

Additionally, the Titans finished with a 24-18 in bench points, led by Eck's nine. Fellow junior Kaia Bowen (Rantoul, Ill.-Rantoul) added seven, and sophomores Katelyn Heller (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) and Emily Collins (Arlington Heights, Ill.-John Hersey), and freshmen Launi Chanthaboury (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) and Emily Kleffman (Tinley Park, Ill.-Tinley Park) recorded two points each.
