Men’s Lacrosse Ventures to Buckeye State

IWU to face Southern Virginia in neutral site match

CINCINNATI, Ohio. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team ventures to Ohio for a neutral site game versus Southern Virginia Saturday, March 27 at 12 p.m. ET at Mariemont High School. The Titans improved 2-0 on the road after a 12-11 win over Aurora University Wednesday, March 24. 

Overall, IWU sits at 4-1, while the Knights are 3-5 on the season ahead of the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Junior Rick Smith (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) leads the Titans with a total of 28 points, on 19 goals and nine assists after five games. Smith is on the verge of breaking into triple digits with 100 goals in his IWU career. The junior currently sits at 99 goals after scoring 56 in 2019, 24 in the shortened 2020 season, and is at 19 and counting in 2021. Smith would become one of nine Titans to break the 100-goal mark in a career.

Freshman Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) made his way up the goal charts with a pair of goals against Aurora. He is tied with juniors Charles Hildestad (Carlock, Ill.-St. Viator) and Griffin DeMilt (Toledo, Ohio-Ottawa Hills) for the second-most goals on the team at 11. 

During the AU game, three Titans registered their first goals of the season, starting with freshman Bob Boone (Los Angeles, Calif.-Notre Dame) who put up three goals for the Green and White. Seniors Jaren Vance (Milwaukee, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) and Jesse Prettner (Minneapolis, Minn.-Edina) tallied their first goals of the season as well.
