Women's Tennis Falls to Firebirds

Titans took wins at No. 2, 4, and 5 singles

RACINE, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team dropped its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener at Carthage College Saturday, March 20, by a score of 6-3. IWU fell to 1-3, while Carthage improved to 2-2.

IWU picked up wins at No. 2, 4, and 5 singles. Senior Rebecca Rochacz (Tinley Park, Ill.-Andrew) got the win at No. 2 via tiebreaker after winning the first set 6-3 and dropping the second set 6-4.

Like Rochacz, junior Ashley Mohr (Morton, Ill.-Morton) and sophomore Katelyn Heller (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) needed a tiebreaker to determine a winner. Mohr rebounded from a 6-4 loss in the opening set with a set two win of 7-5 before taking the tiebreaker. Heller outlasted the opposition at No. 4 singles winning 7-5 in the first and then taking the tiebreaker.

Illinois Wesleyan wraps up its first weekend of CCIW play at Carroll University tomorrow, March 21. First serve is set for 9 am.
