BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After more than a month off, the Illinois Wesleyan University softball team returns to action with four games over two days. The Titans will begin the weekend with a pair of games at the Pioneer Classic Saturday, March 20, before hosting Elmhurst University in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin doubleheader Sunday, March 21.
At the Pioneer Classic, IWU will open the weekend against No. 22 Trine at 11 a.m. ET. Illinois Wesleyan will then tangle with tournament host No. 10 Transylvania at 1:30 p.m. ET. On Sunday, the Titans will play its first game at the newly renamed Inspiration Field at Carol Willis Titan Park with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
Illinois Wesleyan enters the weekend 2-0 following a season-opening sweep of Illinois College, Feb. 18. Trine also enters the weekend with a 2-0 record after topping Anderson (Ind.) in a doubleheader, March 17. Transy owns a 9-2 record, most recently splitting a pair of games against Emory and Henry and Christopher Newport, March 13-14.
The Titans and Thunder have met four times since 2013, with Trine holding a 3-1 edge in the series. Saturday's tilt will be the first meeting between the two since Trine held off IWU 1-0 May 23, 2019 at the NCAA Division III Championships. Illinois Wesleyan and Transylvania will meet for the first time since 2018, and just the seventh time in the last decade. IWU is 5-1 against Transy over the span, including a 2-1 victory May 13, 2018.
The Green and White will kick off CCIW play against Bluejays, looking to improve on its 38-10 record against EU. The Titans have won the post 10 games against Elmhurst. IWU swept a doubleheader in Bloomington last time the two met, as IWU defeated EU 90 and 6-4 April 20, 2019.
All four games will have live stats available, while Sunday's CCIW doubleheader will also be streamed. Links can be found on the softball schedule page on IWUSports.com.
