Men's Volleyball Drops Inaugural Match at Fontbonne

Eastman led the way with 11 kills

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team made history Wednesday night, Feb. 3, as the Titans opened up their inaugural season with a non-conference match at Fontbonne University. IWU hung tough with Fontbonne, but ultimately fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-18).

Illinois Wesleyan was led by Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-St. Ignatius), who tied for the match-high with 11 kills on 23 attempts (.391 attack percentage). He also added a team-best two aces and three digs. KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic) chipped in five kills, a block, and a team-leading five digs. Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), Alec Mucha (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva), and Ethan Scott (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North) added four kills apiece.

Freshmen setting duo Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) and Dominic Bennett (Lockport, Ill.-Plainfield Central) tallied 12 and 11 assists, respectively, while orchestrating the IWU attack.

As a team, Illinois Wesleyan racked up 28 kills to Fontbonne's 37. The Griffins also held leads in serving aces (3-2), blocks (6-2), assists (32-24), and digs (22-12).

The Titans remain on the road as they return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 10, for a pair of non-conference matches at North Park University. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
