BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team made history Wednesday night, Feb.17 with its first set win in program history. The Titans fell to No. 14 North Central College, but picked up their first set win in the process. North Central (3-0) took sets one and two, 25-11 and 25-18, while the Titans (0-4) won set three 25-22. The Cardinals then captured the victory with a set four win, 25-12.
Illinois Wesleyan was led offensively by Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-St. Ignatius) with 12 kills on 25 attempts (.320 attack percentage). Eastman also added the Titan's only ace of the night.
Ethan Scott (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North) and
Alec Mucha (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva) led the Titans with five and four blocks, respectively. Defensively,
KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic) and libero
Adam Blackmore (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva) had a team-high seven digs each.
The freshman setting duo of Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) and
Dominic Bennett (Lockport, Ill.-Plainfield Central) racked up 10 and 9 assists, respectively, as the facilitators of IWU's attack.
As a team, Illinois Wesleyan had eight blocks to the Cardinals' four. North Central led in serving aces (10-1), kills (56-22), assists (49-20), and digs (38-21).
The Titans remain at home for a conference match with North Park, Sunday Feb. 21. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
