Women’s Tennis Defeated by Carthage

Titans are back on the court tomorrow at 10 a.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team fell 8-1 to Carthage College Saturday, Oct. 9. IWU dropped to 2-7 (1-5 CCIW) as the Firebirds advanced to 5-2 (5-2 CCIW).

The Titans recognized their three seniors Anna Cooper (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Prospect) Ashley Mohrs (Morton, Ill.-Morton) and Maria Poehls (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa) during the duel with Carthage. Cooper and Mohrs paired up at No. 1 doubles where they were edged by Carthage 8-3. Poehls partnered with freshmen Marissa Hagler (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal West) at No. 3 doubles where the duo dropped 8-6.

At No. 2 doubles junior Katelyn Heller ( Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) and freshman Amber Shuang (Beijing-Beijing Normal U) secured a point for the Titans after a 8-5 win. Heller and Shuang are 3-0 at No. 2 doubles this season. The duo paired up during a match against Wheaton College Oct. 1 and have been successful ever since. 

The Titans are back tomorrow Sunday, Oct. 10 to face Carroll University. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at Beadles-Morse Courts.
