Men’s Soccer Edged 1-0 in Clash with Cardinals

Titans return home Saturday, Oct. 16

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team lost a close battle to No. 14 North Central College, 1-0 Wednesday, Oct. 13. The Titans dropped to 2-7-1 (1-2 CCIW) as the Cardinals remain among the top in the CCIW with a 14-0-1 (4-0-1 CCIW) record.

The Titans pressured the Cardinals in the first 45 outshooting NCC 4-3 (3-1 SOG). Despite the chances the Titans could not get the upper hand over the Cardinals ending the half 0-0.

A shift in momentum during the second half saw the Titans in their defending third. Six minutes into the second period, the Cardinals broke through the Titans defense to take a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, senior Zack Kokes (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) positioned himself in the Cardinals six-yard box, forcing NCC to come up with two big team saves as they kept the one goal advantage with around 28 minutes to go in the game.

In the second 45 alone, the Titans were outshot 6-3 (3-2 SOG) as IWU couldn't find the back of NCC's net. After 90 minutes of play the Titans left Neis Field with a 1-0 loss.

IWU returns to Neis Field Saturday, Oct. 16 to play CCIW's Augustana College at 3:30 p.m.
