With the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in the cancellation of the majority of the spring sports season, more than 50 Illinois Wesleyan seniors saw their athletic careers come to an end. Due to this and the inability to provide our student-athletes with a traditional Senior Day sendoff, IWUsports.com will share Senior Spotlight profiles over the next several weeks to highlight these Titans and their accomplishments.
Sydney Alery, a native of Stevens Point, Wis., is the daughter of David and Lisa Alery. She is a four-year softball letterwinner.Â
"Sydney has been a warrior on and off the field," Head Softball Coach Tiffany Prager said. "She meets every moment with a special grit and tenacity. She has been vital to our program's growth and success."
She was named the Co-Most Outstanding Player at the Bloomington, Ill. NCAA Super Regional as a sophomore and the Most Outstanding Player in the 2017 Lexington Super Regional as a freshman. The 5-foot-10 utility player also earned Second Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honors as a freshman and was selected to the Alma All-Regional team in 2017 as well.
Overall, Alery has helped the Titans amass a 125-40-1 overall record during her four-year IWU tenure. She finishes her career ranked tied for seventh in Illinois Wesleyan history with 14 career home runs.
Off the diamond, Alery has been a part of several community service projects with IWU softball, including Polar Plunge, Miracle League, and Thanksgiving service events at the Midwest Food Bank. A two-time Academic All-CCIW honoree and NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete, Alery will graduate with a degree in marketing.
