Baseball Shutout by Beloit

Nine pitchers used for IWU

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team was unable to string together anything offensively in an 8-0 loss to Beloit College, Tuesday, March 10. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak and put the Titans at 6-3 on the season while Beloit improved its record to 4-1.

Senior Nick Figus (Lincoln-Way North HS) and sophomore Jared Mutter (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) collected a pair of hits to lead the Titan offense, with Figus adding a double. Senior Jeran Simpson (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton-Warrenville South HS) also notched a hit and stole a base in the second inning. Fellow seniors Dalton Fletcher (Athens, Ill.-Athens HS), who doubled in the eighth inning, and Brandon Skopick (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) rounded out the players who got hits for the Titans.

A total of nine pitchers were used for IWU, with sophomore Evan Daly (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine HS) suffering the loss after giving up three earned runs in two thirds of an inning. Juniors Brady Hough (Germantown Hills, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame HS) and Dan Trudeau (Mokena, Ill.-Mt. Carmel HS), along with senior Rory Muhlvihill (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East HS) combined for no runs and four strikeouts in the fourth through seventh innings. Overall, the pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts and gave up only one extra base hit.

After a day off tomorrow, the Titans return to the diamond for a meeting versus UMass Dartmouth, Thursday, March 12, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:45 p.m. ET.
