BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's basketball team posted an 83-57 win over Augustana College on Senior Night Saturday, Feb. 8, inside the Shirk Center. The win, which marked the third in-a-row for the Titans, saw IWU honor its
Sydney Shanks (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) pregame.
The game featured just one lead change, as Augie got out to a 4-0 start before Illinois Wesleyan blew past the Vikings. The Titans led by as many as 29 en route to picking up a much-needed College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin victory to move to 15-6 overall and 9-3 in league play. The setback dropped Augustana to 11-11 on the season and 6-7 in conference competition.
Illinois Wesleyan used a balanced offense to take down Augustana, as five Titans finished with nine-or-more points. Junior
Kendall Sosa (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and sophomore
Brooke Lansford (Leawood, Kan.-Blue Valley West) led the way with 15 apiece, while juniors
Samantha Munroe (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) and
Riley Brovelli (Oglesby, Ill.-LaSalle-Peru) contributed 14 and 11, respectively. Shanks finished with eight points, seven rebounds, and a team-high four steals.
As a team, IWU converted 50 percent of its shots and 9-for-20 three-point attempts. Augustana finished 21-for-59 (35.6 percent) from the floor and just 7-for-26 from distance. IWU dished out 22 assists, tallied 12 steals, and racked up seven block and held a 40-36 edge on the glass.
Illinois Wesleyan embarks on a two-game roadtrip beginning with a stop in Decatur, Ill. Wednesday, Feb. 12. Tipoff against Millikin University is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Griswold Center.
