BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team returns home to square off against non-conference opponent Aurora University, Wednesday night, Feb. 26. The game is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium. The Titans head into the midweek match at 1-1, while the Spartans won their first game of the season, a 10-8 decision against Augustana College, Saturday, Feb. 22.
IWU received three votes in the Week 4 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Coaches' Poll, released Monday, Feb. 24, following a win over Ohio Wesleyan, Feb. 22.
In the series history between the two universities, Aurora holds a 4-2 advantage over IWU, but the Titans have won two out of the last three meetings. Last year's clash resulted in a 14-10 Titan victory over the Spartans, with Rick Smith (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln Way East) and
Cristian Torres (Winfield, Ill.-Wheaton North) combining for five goals and three assists.
Max Bousky (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) won 16-of-22 faceoffs and picked up 10 ground balls as IWU led had a 21-7 advantage in faceoffs won and picked up 54 ground balls to Aurora's 36.
Smith, along with freshmen Carson Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview) and
Connor Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview), have combined for 15 goals and 17 assists through two games this season. Goalkeeper
Will Harris (Bloomington, Minn.-Holy Angels) has saved 28 shots and registered a .519 save percentage in two starts.
As a team, IWU has accumulated 95 shots with 59 on goal while holding opponents to 82 shots and 54 on goal. The Titans hold a decisive advantage in faceoffs with 41 of their 55 attempts being successful, good for a .745 percentage.
