BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University women's basketball had a strong showing from its starting five as the Titans rolled to a 73-57 win over College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opponent Carroll University in their 13th annual Pink Zone Game, Saturday, Feb. 1. IWU saw its record improve to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in CCIW competition while Carroll fell to 8-12 overall (3-8 CCIW).

For the second time this season, the Titans saw all five starters reach double-figure points. Sophomore Brooke Lansford (Leawood, Kan.-Blue Valley West) led the way with a game-high 13 points. Senior Sydney Shanks (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) and juniors Samantha Munroe (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) and Kendall Sosa (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) finished with 12 points apiece, while junior Riley Brovelli (Oglesby, Ill.-LaSalle-Peru HS) tacked on 10.

Illinois Wesleyan used a 23-6 run over 11 minutes spanning the first and second quarters to secure a 16-point advantage with 1:24 to play in the half. The Pioneers used a triple and a pair of free throws to cut IWU's lead to 38-25 at halftime.

The Titans came out of the break hot, going 7-for-8 from the field and built its lead up to 19 midway through the third quarter. The Pioneers cut the lead to 10 but IWU kept a steady lead going into the fourth quarter, 59-45. In the fourth, the Titans were able to keep a double-digit lead through the entirety of the quarter to make it a decisive victory to stay in the top-three of the CCIW standings.

Illinois Wesleyan shot 27-of-56 (48.2 percent) from the field and 6-of-17 (35.3 percent) from three-point range. Carroll finished shooting 21-of-58 (36.2 percent) from the floor including 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from long distance.

IWU held a commanding edge over CU in blocks, 10-0. The 10 blocks is tied for the second most in any women's basketball game and is the most since Feb. 13, 2019 against North Central College, where the Titans set a team record with 11 blocks.

The Titans will play host in their next game, a CCIW match against the Elmhurst Bluejays. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
