Morton Earns Medalist Honors as Men's Golf Sweeps ONU Fall Intercollegiate

Titans swept the top six spots individually and top two team slots

KANKAKEE, Ill. -
Illinois Wesleyan University's men's golf team swept the top two spots at the ONU Fall Intercollegiate Saturday, Oct. 10, at Elks Country Club. Playing on the 6596-yard, par-72, IWU's 'A' team shot a three-under, 285, to finish atop the team standings at nine-under (567) for the tournament. The Titans' 'B' team fired a 298 to finish second with a score of 597.


Hot off a record-tying performance on Friday, junior Jimmy Morton carded a 69 to finish at 10-under for the tournament and take home medalist honors. It marks his second win of the season.

Senior Andrew Abel (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva) recorded a second-round 70 to climb from a share of fifth to second with a two-day total of 144. Behind Abel's even par, junior Will Nummy (Winnetka, Ill.-New Trier) claimed third at one-over (145). 

Junior Carl Christiansen (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North) and senior Rob Wuethrich (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) tied for fourth, while senior Justin Park (Vernon Hills, Ill.-Vernon Hills) rounded out the Titans' clean sweep, tying for sixth, at 149.

With the win, the Titans have posted 16 straight top-two finishes dating back to a third-place finish at the Jekyll Island Invitational, March 15-17, 2019.
