Men’s Soccer Hold Off Dubuque Rally For 3-1 Triumph

IWU outperformed Dubuque in shots on goal 12 to 2

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team won a hotly contested match versus the University of Dubuque, 3-1, Tuesday evening, Sept. 24. The Titans improved their record to 4-4-0 on the season after the victory.

Sophomore Donovan Malone (Houston, Texas-St. Pius X HS) capitalized off a Dubuque turnover, putting the ball in the lower left corner of the net in the 21st minute to give the Titans a 1-nil lead that carried to halftime. Senior Patrick Hickey (Des Plaines, Ill.-St. Viator HS) added the Titans' second goal of the game off fellow senior Orion Marty's (Addison, Texas-Greenhill School) corner to double IWU's lead in the 73rd minute.

Dubuque managed to pull within one as they scored in the 83rd minute. Both teams traded attacks in the waning minutes, but the Titans finished the match with an exclamation point as sophomore Logan Servin's (Milton, Wis.-Milton HS) goal from a pass by senior Doug Ballard (Solana Beach, Calif.-Canyon Crest Academy) in the last 10 seconds sealed the win.

Hickey led the offensive charge with seven shots, with two on goal. Servin and sophomore Zack Kokes (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central HS) each had four shots, with Servin having all his shots on goal. IWU held the edge over Dubuque in shots (23 to 10), shots on goal (12 to 2), and corner kicks (7 to 4).

Illinois Wesleyan's next match will be the final non-conference game of the season as they travel to Hope College. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. ET, Saturday, Sept. 28.
