No. 4 Titans Win Pair of Softball Games at Home vs. Wheaton

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The No. 4 ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team got solid pitching performances from juniors Ally Wiegand and Brea Walker in winning both ends of a home doubleheader against Wheaton College on Saturday, April 6.

The Titans improved to 15-4 overall and 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with wins by scores of 7-1 and 8-2 over the Thunder (11-13, 2-2 CCIW).

Wiegand (8-2) won the opener, allowing two hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Senior shortstop Julie Josten and freshman first baseman Colleen Palczynski each had two hits, with Palczyinski hitting her second home run of the year.

Walker (7-1) pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-hit shutout ball in the nightcap as the Titans offense gave her 13 hits, including a 4-for-4 outing from freshman catcher Hayley Earl, who homered and had three RBI. Earl also had a double and a run batted in in game one.
Junior designated hitter Sydney Alery, who is returning from a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in her right elbow, smacked a home run in the second game, when she went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and senior centerfielder Jillian Runyon also had three hits in the second win.
