NORMAL, Ill. -- Junior first baseman
Garrett Shea had two home runs and five runs batted in to help power the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team to an 8-7 win over North Park University in a game played at the Corn Crib in Normal, Ill., on a breezy Wednesday (April 10) afternoon.
The Titans squared their record at 12-12 overall and 5-5 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play while the Vikings are 12-10 overall and also 5-5 in CCIW play.
Shea had a two-run homer in the third to give IWU a 3-1 lead and his three-run blast in the fourth, also to rightfield, staked IWU to a 6-2 advantage.
The game-winning hit was a sixth inning double by freshman rightfielder
Evan Ranneklev that brought home junior centerfielder
Nick Figus, who had four hits and scored four runs as he was also on base for both of Shea's homers.
Senior catcher
Seth Palmby had three hits, senior leftfielder
John Bosco and freshman designated hitter
Connor Olson each had two in a 16-hit offensive attack that was enough to offset five fielding errors.
Quinn Gudaitis (3-1), the third of five Titan pitchers, threw 1 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and one unearned run. Senior
Nick Brune pitched two hitless, shutout innings and struck out four to earn his second save of the year.
