Titans Run in NCAA Tournament Ends at St. Thomas

IWU finishes the season with 15-6-0 record

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team saw its season end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the University of St. Thomas as the Titans came up short 1-0, Sunday, Nov. 17. The Tommies got the decisive goal in the 39th minute which was enough to advance them to the sectional of the NCAA tournament.

The Titans finished their season with a 15-6-0 overall record, culminating in a CCIW Tournament Championship and an automatic NCAA tournament bid, the 12th in the team's history.

The Titans held the advantage in shots (10 to 6) and shots on goal (8 to 4). St. Thomas drew seven corners while Illinois Wesleyan had five. Junior Kelli McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.-Cathedral Catholic HS) saved three shots for the Titans in goal.

The match marked the final in the careers of Kaitlyn Chen (Saratoga, Calif.-Saratoga HS), Ellie Crabtree (Springfield, Ill.-Edwardsville HS), Flower Edington (Wilmette, Ill.-New Trier Township HS), Shannon Gatehouse (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East HS), and Braelyn Spears (San Antonio, Texas-Univ. Incarnate Word HS). Together, the senior class combined for 38 goals, 34 assists, 110 points, and 58 wins.
