No. 18 Illinois Wesleyan Women Post 33-Point Win at North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Seniors Nina Anderson and Maddie Merritt scored 19 and 18 points, respectively, to lead the No. 18-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team to a 93-60 rout of North Park in Chicago on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Junior Sydney Shanks had 15 points with six rebounds and six assists and sophomore Raven Hughes added 10 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as the Titans were outrebounded, 46-41.

The Titans are now 12-3 overall and 5-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and the Vikings now answer to a 6-10 overall mark with a 2-5 league record.

Illinois Wesleyan built up a 22-9 lead after one quarter and led by a 51-23 score at halftime on 53 percent shooting from the field (18 of 34). But the Vikings scored the first nine points of the second half and cut the IWU lead to 12 at 52-40 with 6:17 to play in the third. But the Titans righted the ship, led by 17 at 65-48 after three and outscored the Vikings, 28-12 in the final 10 minutes to post the win.

Josie Summerville led North Park with 14 points and 13 rebounds while Sinead Molloy added 11. The Vikings were two of 16 in 3-point shooting (.125), made 16 of 29 free throws (.552) and committed 30 turnovers while the Titans admitted to 15. The Titans finished 10 of 22 from 3-point range (.455) and were 19 of 27 from the free throw stripe (.704).

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan plays at Millikin University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 ... Coached by former Illinois Wesleyan All-American Olivia Lett, the Big Blue is 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the CCIW after a narrow 76-75 loss at league-leading Wheaton on Wednesday.
