Illinois Wesleyan Men's Lacrosse to Open at Denison in NCAA Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- For the second straight year and second time overall, the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse will play in the NCAA Division III national tournament, facing the Denison Big Red in the second round game on Wednesday, May 9, at Piper Stadium in Granville, Ohio.

Game time will be available on Monday. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $3 for students (ages 13-21) and $2 for children (ages (3-12).

Illinois Wesleyan was one of 11 at-large selections for the 36-team tournament while 25 teams received automatic bids for being their conference champion. The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament winner in 2019 will receive an automatic bid.

Illinois Wesleyan is 16-3 on the year and winners of the CCIW tournament.  This is the second-straight year that Denison and the Titans will meet in the NCAA Tournament.  Last season, the Big Red prevailed 25-11 in the third round.

Through games of May 3, Illinois Wesleyan led the nation in four categories - 22.44 goals per game, an 11.28 scoring margin, 13.44 assists per game and 52.89 ground balls per game. As a team, IWU has set season records for goals, points, assists, shots attempted and ground balls.

Junior J.C. Grabarek, who is already IWU's all-time leader with 563 ground balls, is second in Division III with 12.65 ground balls per game and third in the nation with a .741 faceoff winning percentage.
Sophomore attacker Alex Doorenbos has a season record of 66 goals and senior Nick Winter has 46 assists, five away from a school season record.

Making its 23rd NCAA tournament appearance, Denison is 15-3 this season and is No. 10 in the most recent USILA Division III Top-20 poll. It will be the Big Red's 40th NCAA tournament game since 1982.
Denison is led by sophomore attackman Peter Pittroff who ranks fourth in the nation in assists with 63. That ranks second in program history only to Liam Rooney's 88 assists in 2017.  One hundred of the team's 262 goals this season have come from either Brooks Day (53) or Spencer Butler (47). 
Henry DeCamp is 10th in Division III in faceoff winning percentage (.687).  In his second season as the team's primary FOGO, DeCamp has 503 wins and 265 ground balls.
The Denison defense is anchored by senior All-American Ben Duhoski who leads the team with 22 caused turnovers and is third with 43 ground balls. 

What's Next?
The winner of the IWU/Denison game will play on Saturday against the winner of the game between Aurora (19-1) and host school Ohio Wesleyan (15-3) ... The eventual Division III national championship game will be on Sunday, May 27 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
