Titan Baseball Holds Off Carthage in 10-6 Friday CCIW Win

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Illinois Wesleyan bats produced 15 hits as eight of nine starters hit safely in a 10-6 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win over No. 25-ranked Carthage College on Friday, May 4, in Kenosha, Wis.

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 21-16 overall and 10-12 in the CCIW. The Red Men are now 29-9 overall and 16-6 against the league.

The Titans scored five runs on five hits in the third inning and posted single runs in the first, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth. Carthage trailed 8-2 before scoring four in the seventh to close the gap to 8-6 but could get no closer as freshman Eric Bennes went the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first save. Freshman Quinn Gudaitis (3-1), the second of four IWU pitchers, was the winning hurler with three innings of four-hit, one-run relief.

Sophomore centerfielder Nick Figus had three hits with a double and seniors Jake Stewart, Stephen Billington and Gino Cavalieri also had two hits each along with sophomore Garrett Shea and junior leftfielder John Bosco.

Freshman catcher Eric Kozlowski hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

The same teams meet for a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. in Kenosha.
