ST. LOUIS, Mo. (March 25, 2018) – Illinois Wesleyan baseball split a doubleheader at Washington U., winning game one 6-1 before losing by an 8-1 score at Kelly Field in St. Louis on Sunday, March 25.
Illinois Wesleyan is now 9-4 this spring and WashU is 11-7. The nine victories gives IWU head coach
Dennis Martel a career mark of 792 wins, closing in on 800 victories in his 31st season.
In game one, senior designated hitter
Mike Plecki had four runs batted in with two coming on a double in the third inning and the others coming on a fifth inning single.

John Bosco, sophomore second baseman
Nick Figus, senior third baseman
Gino Cavalieri and senior centerfielder
Jake Stewart each had two hits in the 13-hit Titan attack. With hits in games one and two, Cavalieri has now hit safely in all 13 of IWU's 2018 games, is hitting .481 and has eight multiple-hit games.
Freshman
Nick Watson (1-0) was the winning pitcher in relief of starter
Nick Brune. Watson struck out eight Bears in 5 1/3 innings of two-hit, shutout ball. Sophomore
Casey Becker picked up his second save of the spring, striking out two and allowing one hit in 2 1/3 innings.
In the nightcap, the Titans managed just six hits and Figus collected two of those. Rightfielder
Ben Manski and freshman catcher
Eric Kozlowski had doubles for IWU's extra base hits.
The Bears jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. Lefty starter
Jim O'Brien (0-1) allowed two runs on two hits with two walks in one inning to absorb the loss.
