AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Babson College baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand Illinois Wesleyan a 7-6 setback on Friday, March 16, in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Lake Myrtle Field in Auburndale, Fla.
The Titans are now 7-3 this season while the Beavers improved to 3-1.
After going 9-for-13 the day before, the 2-3-4 hitters in IWU's Friday lineup were 9-for-14 as junior leftfielder
John Bosco, sophomore centerfielder
Nick Figus and senior third baseman
Gino Cavalieri each had three hits. Bosco had the Titans' only extra-base hit of the 13 hits the team had.
With the score tied at 3-3, the Titans took a lead with three runs in the top of the eighth. With one out,
Jacob Houghton singled to left and sophomore shortstop
Brandon Skopick reached on an error to send Houghton to third. Bosco's double to left center brought home one run and Figus had a run-scoring single to center, scoring Skopick. After Cavalieri lined out, Bosco scored on a fielding error.
Freshman starting pitcher
Eric Bennes went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and freshman
Brady Hough threw three scoreless frames, allowing one hit with two walks and a strikeout. Freshman
Hunter Simon (2-1) was touched for four runs on four hits in 1/3 of an inning in the ninth.
