Titan Women Improve to 2-0 in CCIW With 20-Point Win at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Five players, led by sophomore Kendall Sosa with 18, scored in double figures as the No. 13 Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team rolled to an 81-61 win over Elmhurst College on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst, Ill.

With five straight wins, the Titans are now 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays are 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the CCIW.

In addition to Sosa, senior Maddie Merritt scored 17, sophomore Raven Hughes and junior Sydney Shanks each poured in 11 and senior Ashley Schneider scored 10. The Titans shot .517 from the field, their second-best of the season, making 31 of 60 shots.

Sosa, who had five rebounds and three assists, sank 6 of 8 shots from the field including 3 of 3 from 3-point range.

Hughes didn't miss a shot in the game, making all four of her field goal attempts, including her only 3-pointer, as well as going two for two from the free throw line. She also had a team-high six rebounds and three assists.

Playing its third game in five days, IWU built leads of 17-13 after one quarter and 38-31 at halftime. The Titans extended their lead by outscoring Elmhurst 27-16 in the third period.

Elmhurst was led by Sophia Lathe with 12 points on four 3-pointers while Kween Jean added 10 points. The Bluejays were outscored in points off turnovers, 23-11, and the teams each had 34 rebounds.

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan plays at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. The Vikings are 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference after a 69-58 home court loss to North Central on Wednesday.
