MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The No. 12-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 66-52 win over Cornell College on Saturday, Nov. 17 in the Cornell Classic at the Small Multi-Sport Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
IWU stepped out to a 14-3 lead and never trailed in the game, leading by a 45-21 score at halftime and getting 10 players in the scoring column.
Senior
Maddie Merritt led the Titans with 20 points and six rebounds while senior
Ashley Schneider and sophomore
Raven Hughes each snagged five rebounds. Sophomore
Kendall Sosa had a team-high six assists and junior
Sydney Shanks had four.

Nina Anderson scored nine points and Schneider and Sosa each had seven.
Thirty Cornell turnovers led to 31 Illinois Wesleyan points as IWU shot .412 from the field (21 of 51) and .238 from 3-point range (five of 21). IWU made 19 of 29 free throws (.655) and the Rams made six of nine. In the game Cornell shot .377 from the floor (20 of 53) and .316 from beyond the arc (six of 19).
Kandis O'Donnell led Cornell with 14 points and seven boards as the Rams had a 36-34 rebounding edge.
