ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team closed out its 2018 season on a three-game winning streak, claiming a 4-1 victory over Elmhurst College at Langhorst Field in Elmhurst, Ill., on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The Titans finish with an 11-5 overall record and 4-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, tied for fourth place with North Central. The Cardinals have the tiebreaker to play in the CCIW tournament against IWU with a 2-0 victory over the Titans on Oct. 3.
Elmhurst's season ends with a 4-14 overall ledger and 2-6 in CCIW play.
Illinois Wesleyan had an 18-9 advantage in overall shots and led 13-4 in shots on goal. The Titans got on the board first at 34:04 when junior
Orion Marty scored his second goal of the year on an assist from
Doug Ballard.
Sophomore
Keagan James scored at 58:03 and senior
Mason Maier scored with an assist to freshman
Donovan Malone at 60:41 to stake the Titans to a 3-0 lead. After Elmhurst scored at goal in the 78th minute, the Titans'
Blake Tempel responded with a marker at 81:36 with an assist to fellow senior
Ben Nielsen.
Junior
Alex Ruckstaetter played 75:50 and made all three saves while freshmen
Brett Sprengel (8:25) and
Austin Woodside (5:45) also saw action in goal.
