#18 Titan Women Topple Carroll To Extend Winning Streak To 13 Games

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The No. 18-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team handled Carroll University by a final score of 89-46 on Saturday, Jan. 20 from the Van Male Fieldhouse. Illinois Wesleyan utilized a balanced scoring attack that featured three double-digit scorers and 10 scorers with six or more points.

With a win the Titans increased their winning streak to 13 games and improved their record to 15-2 overall with an unblemished 8-0 mark in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Carroll fell to 5-12 with a 2-6 mark in the CCIW following a loss to the Titans.

Illinois Wesleyan shot 51.5 percent from the floor on Saturday afternoon converting on 34-of-66 field-goal attempts. The Titan bench was hot from beyond the arc, combining to shoot 61.5 percent on 8-of-13 shooting. IWU out-rebounded the Pioneers 34-27 with a 13-7 advantage on the offensive glass that led to 16 second chance points. Carroll was unable to handle the offensive prowess of Illinois Wesleyan's bench as they combined to score 46 of the teams 89 points.

Carroll shot a respectable 43.9 percent from the floor, but were done in on the offensive end by a 6-of-17 performance from the charity stripe. Defensively, the Titans forced the Pioneers into committing 34 turnovers which led to 41 points off turnovers. Senior Rebekah Ehresman led the defensive effort for Illinois Wesleyan stealing a career-high eight passes. Ehresman's mark of eight steals ranks No. 3 all-time at Illinois Wesleyan behind Lexi Baltes (12) and Mallory Heydorn (10). The Pioneers were unable to match the Titans defensively, forcing just 11 turnovers.

Freshman Raven Hughes and junior Nina Anderson each tallied 12 points to lead the team on Saturday. Following another 6-of-7 performance, Hughes increased her season shooting percentage to .678. Anderson finished 4-of-6 from 3-point range and increased her season shooting percentage from deep to .402. Junior Ashley Schneider was the Titans third double-digit scorer with 10. Freshman Samantha Munroe led the team with five rebounds while freshman Riley Brovelli notched a team-high four assists.

Senior Molly McGraw, Ehresman, and Munroe each scored nine for the Titans while sophomore Sydney Shanks scored eight points. All thirteen members of the women's basketball team saw action against the Pioneers.

Carroll was led by Brittney Wald who scored a game-high 15 points. Katie Rossetti hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds for the Pioneers and blocked three Titan shots.

What's Next?

Illinois Wesleyan will play the first of a three-game home stretch on Wednesday, Jan. 24 where they will take on North Central College at 7 p.m. from the Shirk Center. North Central has lost three straight in the CCIW and will head to Bloomington with a season record of 4-13 with a 2-6 mark in conference play. Mayson Whipple is the Cardinals lone double-digit scorer with 11.1 points per game on average and 13.1 per game in CCIW play.
