BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team continued their offensive tear on Wednesday, March 29 by defeating Benedictine University by a final score of 27-7. Coming into the game the Titans were ranked as the No. 1 scoring offense in division III with an average of 20.50 goals per game. Senior
Jacob Perry paced the offense by matching a career-high in goals with six.
With a win the Titans improved to 7-2 overall, while Benedictine fell to 2-8 on the season.
After a first quarter which left the score tied at three, the Titans took full control of the game by outscoring the Eagles 24-4. The Eagles were no match for the Titans as they were outshot 63-29 which included a 44-17 advantage on shots on goal. As a team the Titans won 28-of-38 face-off attempts, and bested the Eagles 60-22 in ground balls.
Benedictine found themselves in the penalty box seven times on Wednesday night, which led to four man-up goals for Illinois Wesleyan.
Junior
Nick Winter led the team in points with 9 after a five goal and four assist performance. Sophomore
J.C. Grabarek led the team with 15 ground balls due in part to his 21-of-28 performance on face-offs. Senior
Steven Laduzinsky earned the win in goal making 10 saves on 29 shot attempts.
For Benedictine, Corbin Gett led the team with three goals and one assist. In goal for the Eagles, Sammie Sanko made 16 saves in 50 minutes of work prior to be replaced.
What's Next?
The Titans are at home on Saturday, April 1 for a non-conference match against Alma College at 12 p.m. The Scots bring with them a 6-2 record after they defeated Wooster College on Overtime on March 22.
