Titan Softball Earns Split on Florida Getaway Day

KISSIMMEE, Fla. --  The Illinois Wesleyan softball team closed out their spring break trip on a winning note with a 7-2 win over Washington College (Md.) after losing to No. 13-ranked Wis.-Eau Claire, 3-2, on Friday, March 17 at the Osceola County Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Titans snapped a four-game losing streak to boost their record to 6-4. Eau Claire is 6-1 and Washington College is 9-10.

Against Eau-Claire, the Titans were bitten by solo home runs in the sixth inning (tied the game at 2-2) and in the seventh inning (won the game).

IWU took a 2-1 lead over the Blugolds in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-RBI single from freshman shortstop Sam Berghoff, who finished with two hits in the game.

Freshman starting pitcher Brea Walker earned a no-decision after pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits. Junior Mackenzie Marquis was tagged with her second loss of the season after a one-inning stint in which she allowed the home run to Kelsey Meredith.
