Titan Softball Improves to 4-0 With Monday Wins in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Illinois Wesleyan softball team came from behind to win over William Paterson and scored runs in the fifth and sixth to top St. Norbert in Monday's action in the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.

The 4-0 Titans downed William Paterson by a score of 6-4 and held off a seventh inning rally to top St. Norbert 4-3. William Paterson's record evens at 3-3 while St. Norbert is 0-2.

IWU trailed William Paterson, 4-3, before plating three runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, the Titans got consecutive singles from junior leftfielder Summer Stitt, junior catcher Amanda Lack, freshman shortstop Sam Berghoff, junior rightfielder Maggie Graham and sophomore third baseman Julie Josten.
Stitt, Lack, Berghoff and Graham each had two hits in a 10-hit attack.
Sophomore Taylor Marvin (2-0) worked the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings to get the pitching victory in relief of freshman starter Brea Walker.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the fifth against St. Norbert, sophomore centerfielder Jillian Runyon tripled and came home on a Graham base hit with two outs. Berghoff homered to rightfield to stake the Titans to a 4-2 lead.
Runyon, Graham and Josten each had two hits as IWU got 10 hits for the second straight game.

Junior Mackenzie Marquis (2-0) pitched four innings in relief of Marvin. Marquis allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out one and survived a bases-loaded jam, inducing a flyout to end the game.
