Titan Women's Basketball Takes Aim at CCIW Tourney Title

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team shoots for its seventh College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin postseason tournament championship and first since 2012 when it plays a semifinal game against Elmhurst at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at King Arena at Wheaton College.

THE GAME: No. 2-seeded Illinois Wesleyan (17-8, 12-4 CCIW) plays a 5 p.m. game at King Arena against No. 3-seeded Elmhurst College (19-6, 11-5 CCIW) … The winner of that semifinal game will advance to face the winner of No. 1-seeded Wheaton College (21-4, 14-2 CCIW) and No. 4 -eeded Augustana College (17-8, 10-6 CCIW) on Saturday.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Illinois Wesleyan has a 17-6 record in the CCIW postseason women's tournament with six tournament titles (2003, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). Go here to see all games played by Illinois Wesleyan.

NCAA FIELD ANNOUNCED: The field for the NCAA Division III tournament will be announced at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, with the selection show aired live at NCAA.com.

COACHES: Illinois Wesleyan's Mia Smith is in her 19th season and has an overall record of 363-157 (.698) with a CCIW mark of 195-73 (.727) ... Tethnie Carrillo is in her 10th season at Elmhurst College, holding a career record of 143-116 (75-67 CCIW) ... Kent Madsen is in his seventh season as the Thunder head coach and has a 145-42 overall mark (79-21 CCIW) ... Mark Beinborn is in his fifth season at Augustana and has a career mark of 49-76 (22-50 CCIW).

THE SERIES VS. TOURNAMENT TEAMS: Illinois Wesleyan holds a 51-16 advantage over the Bluejays in the all-time series dating back to 1981 ... Wheaton has a 49-25 edge in the series against IWU dating back to 1974 ... IWU has a 42-23 record against Augustana dating back to 1976. This season the Titans went 1-1 against each of the remaining three teams in the conference tournament.
 
TITAN WOMEN'S HOOP NOTES: IWU has won 12 of its last 15 games despite finishing the regular season on a two-game skid ... IWU is eighth of 440 NCAA D-III teams in scoring (79.0), 10th in turnovers forced per game (24.76) and seventh in turnover margin (9.28) ... The Titans are 38th nationally with 298 total steals… Amanda Kelly ranks No. 7 in the nation for assist-to-turnover ratio (2.87) and Rebekah Ehresman is No. 21 for assist-to-turnover ratio (2.21) … Sophomore Maddie Merritt is 21st in the nation in free-throw shooting (.850) ... Junior Molly McGraw is 13th all-time at IWU with 1150 points. She is No. 17 with 203 free throws, No. 38 with 31 3-pointers and No. 9 with 458 field goals … Ehresman is ranked No. 27 in scoring (877), No. 21 in 3-pointers (75), No. 15 in free throws (212), No. 24 in rebounds (436), and No. 16 in assists (222) in program history ... Kelly is No. 20 with 193 career assists … Shelby Gray ranks No. 24 with 66 3-pointers in her career and Nina Anderson is tied for 30th with 41.
 
ELMHURST: The Bluejays rank No. 17 nationally with 77.1 points per game and No. 4 with a .464 field goal percentage ... Mikaela Eppard ranks No. 16 in DIII with a 21.2 point per game average and No. 6 with a .613 field goal percentage ... Eppard averages a double-double with 10.8 rebounds per game and collected 16 double-doubles this season ... Against Millikin last week, Eppard matched her career-high's with 39 points and 20 rebounds on 16-of-22 shooting.

WHEATON: The Thunder rank No. 13 nationally with 77.8 points per game and No. 9 with a .453 field goal percentage … Wheaton is No. 5 in D-III with a 1.32 assist-turnover ratio and No. 9 with 18.0 assists per game. Katie McDaniels is the reigning CCIW Player of the Week (2/20) ... McDaniels ranks No. 33 with a 19.8 point per game average on .457 percent shooting and No. 12 in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.51) ... Chantall Meachem ranks No. 12 in 3-point percentage at .418.

AUGUSTANA: Augustana ranks No. 4 nationally with 82.8 points per game and No. 13 in rebounds per game with 47.32. Defensively the Vikings rank No. 413 of 440 teams, allowing 75.2 points per game. Kaycee Kallenberger is a force down low for the Vikings, averaging 12.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per game ... Kallenberger ranks No. 31 in rebounding and No. 14 in blocked shots with 3.0 per game. Izzy Anderson (11.8) and Corrie Reilly (11.6) also average double-figure scoring for the Vikings.
