ADA, Ohio -- After a 2-1 victory over Centre College on Saturday, the Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team suffered defeat at the hands of No. 14-ranked Ohio Northern University on Sunday, Nov. 12. The Polar Bears scored twice in the second half to end Illinois Wesleyan's 2017 campaign.
With a loss the Titans conclude the season with a 17-5 overall record. Illinois Wesleyan now holds a 10-8-3 record in NCAA tournament matches. Ohio Northern improved to 19-1-2 and will face No. 2-ranked William Smith (19-1) in the "Sweet 16" round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kelli McCarthy made a career-high 10 saves in the match after facing 19 total shots from Ohio Northern. Meagan Grierson made four saves in her shutout of Illinois Wesleyan.
ONU's Sarah Puntel scored each of the Polar Bears' goal on Sunday, first in the 48th and lastly in the 72nd minute of action off a rebound. Puntel's first goal sparked some life into the Titan offense who rattled off three shots on goal in a five minute period following the initial score.

Cameron Hindel recorded the Titans first chance of the afternoon in the 38th minute of the first half which proved to be Illinois Wesleyan only shot on goal in the half. Sophomores
Jordan Ellerbrock and
Shannon Gatehouse, and junior
Rosie Pettenuzzo were responsible for the Titans three shot on goal chances in the second half.
