IWU Women Host Augie, Men Travel To Chicago for Wednesday Action

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's and men's basketball teams play College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin games on Wednesday, Jan. 28, with the women hosting Augustana at 7 p.m. at the Shirk Center and the men playing at No. 23 North Park in Chicago at 7 p.m.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

THE GAME: The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team (12-5, 4-4 CCIW) plays at No. 23-ranked North Park University (13-4, 6-2 CCIW) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28 in Chicago.
 
POLLING PLACE: Augustana is ranked No. 16 and North Park is No. 23 in this week's D3hoops.com poll. Among other IWU opponents, Washington U. is No. 8 and Middlebury is No. 22.
 
ABOUT ILLINOIS WESLEYAN:
In national stats, IWU is No. 44 of 416 D-III schools with a +9.5 scoring margin, No. 43 with 9.4 3-pointers/game and No. 58 with a .736 free throw percentage ... With 433, senior Trevor Seibring is 33rd at IWU in career rebounds, tied for 41st with 219 free throws and 38th with a .693 career FT percentage ... Senior Andy Stempel is 21st all-time with 85 3-pointers, junior Brady Rose is 35th (64) and senior Alec Bausch is 40th (43) ...  IWU has a 3-point field goal in 594 straight games dating back to an 86-76 win at North Park on Jan. 28, 1996.
 
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS: North Park has won four straight conference games but has dropped in the national poll as a result of non-conference road losses to Manchester (89-77) and Illinois Tech (81-77) ... Jordan Robinson ranks 15th in the national D-III stats as he averages 23.5 points and Juwan Henry is 74th in the country as he scores at a 19.6 clip ... Robinson is also 57th nationally in rebounds (9.7/game) and 15th with 10 double-doubles ... Henry has taken 296 shots, ninth most of anyone in D-III ... As a team, the Vikings handle the ball well and commit only 10.1 turnovers per game, seventh lowest in the nation. Ohio Wesleyan commits only 8.6 per game and leads D-III ... North Park is also among the nation's best in shooting - 25th in field goal percentage (.489) and 15th in 3-point accuracy (.408) ... Opponents shoot well against North Park as the Vikings allow foes to shoot .482 from the field, ranking 385th of 416 D-III schools.
 
COACHES: Illinois Wesleyan's Ron Rose is in his 11th season and has an overall record of 201-100 (.669) with a CCIW ledger of 93-55. Rose is third in all-time wins at IWU, behind Dennie Bridges (667-319, 1965-01) and Jack Horenberger (264-212, 1945-65). He got his 200th career win at home against Wheaton on Jan. 7 ... In his fifth year at North Park, Tom Slyder has a CCIW record of 16-44 and an overall 12-year career mark of 154-149 including a 102-84 record at Anderson.
 
THE SERIES: North Park defeated Illinois Wesleyan, 72-68 back on Dec. 7 at the Shirk Center … Illinois Wesleyan has a 79-32 lead in the series (since 1941-42)...The Titans have won nine of the last 12 and 36 of the last 46 meetings ... IWU won 17 straight at home vs. the Vikings from 1989-2006.

WHAT'S NEXT: Illinois Wesleyan has a rare Saturday free and will return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Millikin at 7 p.m. … It is the third straight road game for IWU.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

THE GAME: The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team (11-6, 6-2 CCIW) seeks revenge for a loss one week ago (Jan. 18), hosting Augustana College (13-4, 6-2 CCIW) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Shirk Center.
 
TITAN WOMEN'S HOOP NOTES: IWU is seventh of 440 NCAA D-III teams in scoring (79.0), 18th in turnovers forced (24.76) and 46th with 12.1 steals per game ... Junior Molly McGraw recorded her 1,000th career point a week ago at Augie and is No. 19 all-time at IWU with 1,015 career points (67 games). Just ahead of her are Nicki Preston with 1,027 (118 games, 2007-11) and Hope Schulte (121 games, 2007-11). The all-time record is 1,632 by Traci Butler (102 games, 1992-96) ... Senior Rebekah Ehresman ranks No. 34 in scoring (790), No. 21 in 3-pointers (71), No. 18 in free throws (183), No. 29 in rebounds (389) and No. 19 in assists (195) ... Sophomore Maddie Merritt's .838 career free throw percentage is the best in an IWU uniform (145 of 173).
 
HOME COURT: IWU has a 204-69 record at the Shirk Center and, since 2008, IWU has a home record of 87-25 (.774).
 
ABOUT THE VIKINGS: The 13 wins is the most for women's basketball at Augustana since the 2003-04 team went 15-9 ... Augustana boasts one of the best offenses in the nation ranking third in scoring offense with 87.1 points per game ... At 6 foot-5, Kayce Kallenberger is a force down low averaging 11.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. In the D-III national stats, Kallenberger ranks 25th in total rebounds (193) and 11th in blocked shots (53) ... The Vikings opened the season with 10 straight wins and are 3-4 since Christmas. Augie had a three-game win streak snapped with a 91-76 loss at Millikin last Saturday ...  The Vikings' two leading scorers haven't started a game this year. Corrie Reiley (13.1 points/game) and Izzy Anderson (12.1/game) come off the bench and each average more than 23 minutes per game.
 
COACHES: Illinois Wesleyan's Mia Smith is in her 19th season and has an overall record of 357-155 (.697) with a CCIW mark of 189-71 (.726) ... In his fifth season, Mark Beinborn holds an overall record of 45-72 with a CCIW mark of 18-46.
 
THE SERIES: Illinois Wesleyan leads the series, 41-33 ... At one time (1992-93), Augustana had a 24-1 lead in the series so since that time the Titan teams have gone 40-9 against the Vikings.
