IWU Men's Lacrosse Vanquishes Vikings, 17-13

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- A combined 11 goals from junior Jacob Perry and sophomore James Maibuecher allowed the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team to pick up a 17-13 road victory over Augustana at Thorsen-Lucken Field in Rock Island on Thursday, April 28.

The win gives IWU their school-record 12th win of the season and the Titans end their regular season with a 12-4 record and 4-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Saturday's scheduled game against Carroll has been forfeited to Illinois Wesleyan by the Pioneers.
Augustana slipped to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW with one game left to play.

In the first quarter, the Titans quickly erased a 1-0 deficit by scoring four goals in a two minute span and eventually taking a 7-5. Defensive intensity picked up in the second frame, as Illinois Wesleyan would be held scoreless for the first 12 minutes of the quarter while Augustana scored five goals to take a 10-7 lead with 3:53 remaining. IWU would respond with two goals to close out the half and trail 10-9 at halftime. The Titans would then hold Augie scoreless to open the second half, scoring all four goals in the third quarter and would outscore the Vikings 4-3 in the final 15 minutes to net their first victory over Augustana in three tries.

Perry led all players in the game with six goals while Maibuecher scored five of his own to pace the Titans, who let off 58 shots in the game. Juniors Michael Julius and Evan Mok-Lamme each had two goals in the game with Tim Smith and Max Porter adding the other IWU goals.

Junior Steven Laduzinsky earned the victory at goalkeeper, making 14 saves while playing all 60 minutes in net.
